A new study shows that living roofs with high levels of vegetation are significantly more efficient than their sparsely vegetated counterparts. Researchers at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Università Politecnica delle Marche were able to show that vegetative roofs with dense coverage transfer 60% less heat through the roof than green roofs without dense coverage. There are other benefits of a densely vegetated green roof that are not mentioned in the study. For example, densely vegetated living roofs require much less maintenance to keep healthy. Dense vegetation prevents weeds from establishing, this leads to healthier plants across the entire vegetated roof. Also, fully vegetated roof gardens are instantly beautiful, and look great for decades. To learn more about fully vegetated roofs read about the LiveRoof difference.
