CAM Plants Have What it Takes to Thrive on the Rooftop
Green roof plants have to be tough! They must survive drought, extreme temperatures, and high winds. Sedums, Sempervivums, and Delospermas are some species which have been proven to work well on the rooftop environment in most climates. These plants use a special form of metabolism called ‘Crassulacean Acid Metabolism’ (CAM).
CAM plants open their leaf pores at night instead of during the daytime. CAM plants exchange gasses (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in the dark when it is cooler and less windy, and this process helps make them up to 10 times more efficient at conserving water than other plants. All LiveRoof plants are selected for extreme drought tolerance, pest residence, long life, low maintenance, and beauty. Here are some NEW CAM species developed specifically for green roof applications.
